After the immediate recovery, moms and their families spend the rest of their stay in the Mother/Baby Care unit. Nurses teach new moms how to take care of themselves and their babies, as well as help with breastfeeding support.

Our Mother Baby Unit consists of both private and semiprivate rooms. The same nurses care for both the mother and her newborn which enhances the attention and care provided as well as provides for more individualized education.

The nursery is located within the Mother Baby Unit. Mothers are encouraged to keep their babies with them, in their rooms, to facilitate bonding and breastfeeding.

Infant care classes and breastfeeding instruction is offered to our new parents. Grandparents are also encouraged to participate in the infant care classes. Lactation Specialists, nurses with certification in breastfeeding instruction, visit each nursing mother daily.

You will receive a call from one of staff members during your first week home to follow-up on your recovery and to answer any questions you may have about caring for you and your baby. Mothers who deliver at Chilton are given a special number to contact a nurse 24 hours per day/ 7 days a week, should they have any questions about their newborns' care
