The birth of a child is a family event. Chilton Memorial is committed to making this event one that is safe and memorable for the family. The hospital's Perinatal Unit and Maternal/Child Health Services boast a four-bed Intermediate Care Nursery, enabling a child born of a high-risk pregnancy to stay with his/her mother at the hospital. Two holding nurseries adjacent to the Post-partum unit nursing station serve staff and patients. Mother-baby nursing or couplet care, promotes comprehensive care for mother and baby. The Labor/Delivery/Recovery suites offer expectant mothers home-like environments during their hospital stays. An education program tracks and counsels expecting mothers likely to have high-risk deliveries, such as those with diabetes. The program offers diet counseling, meal planning, and teaches women to monitor their blood glucose levels to reduce the likelihood of having traumatic deliveries, and to get their babies off to a safer start in life.
